Under the Sea

On Saturday I made my way up to Denver with a couple of friends to see The Little Mermaid - The Musical. It's doing a quick "try-out" run in Denver before heading to Broadway. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much. A movie with more than half of it's scenes underwater turned into a musical? There's no way they could pull it off.
But they did, amazingly enough. I was completely blown away by how fantastic the entire production was. The sets were incredibly detailed and it wasn't hard to believe the scenes were taking place under water. The costumes were as gorgeous and shimmery as the sets and the actors were all perfect. Sierra Bogges embodies everything that Ariel is. And the music! The show contained all the music from the movie but had eight extra songs thrown in the mix. Usually when they decide to throw extra songs into musicals they're good, but not great. These were great! My favorite song was one of the new ones that Flounder and Ariel's sisters sing.
All in all, it was a great experience. I would highly recommend making an effort to see it if you make your way to New York (or Denver).
ps - did i mention Prince Eric and Kind Tritan are total hotties?!

Wow -that's high praise! It sounds like something that would be mediocre at best (I think the Ice Capades did The Little Mermaid here in Boston a few years back, so I guess I'm picturing that on stage...)

Glad to hear it exceeded your expectations!

Well that's a fun surprise! I honestly would never have given a stage production of Little Mermaid a second glance. Glad to know someone could pull it off. YEAH!

Oh I wish I had known about this earlier!!! I've heard rumors that it would premier on Broadway, but had no idea it was going to be in Denver first! I'm glad you went, and I'm glad you loved it. I suppose I'll just have to see it in New York. ;) Darn it! xox

Glad you had a better experience at The Little Mermaid than Jason and I had at The Lion King. We got up and walked out during intermission! :)

Huh - I would've been VERY skeptical. Sounds like it was okay. And I know how I love Disney movies...sign me up.

How fun! I went to see Mary Poppins when I was in NY a few months ago, and I thought it was amazing.

Hey, I'm glad you liked it! I absolutely love musicals, and Lion King and Beauty and the Beast both did so well, but I was a little nervous about Little Mermaid. I'll definately have to go see it now :-)
